Hi guys, I have a HD file that is an .mkv and I wanna use the MKV in Premiere Pro but it doesn’t takes it. Is there any way to extract the video and audio source in another format to use it in Premiere Proand keep the quality as good as possible ? Thanks in advance!

We’d admit Adobe Premiere Pro is a wonderful tool to help you turn your home videos into professional eye-catching movies. And it normally can recognize a few file formats like MPEG, WMV, MOV, but Adobe Premiere now does not handle MKV file perfectly.

Does Adobe Premiere Pro Support MKV Natively?

From Adobe blog, we know that Adobe will be removing support for the MKV file format in the next updates of Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder.

The previous MKV file format was limited to decoding for playback, but have never offered support for encoding MKV, and overall usage of this format has been very low.

If you stick with Adobe and want to edit MKV in Premiere Pro, users who need access to MKV files can consider third-party utilities.

To convert and open MKV to Premiere Pro seamlessly and effortlessly, DumboFab Video Converter is what you need. It’s the optimal MKV converter for you, which can help you decode the MKV files when converting into a different, and ideally more edit friendly, compression format like MPEG-2. So you can edit MKV footage with Adobe Premiere Pro smoothly. Besides MKV, this video convert program can also help to convert between any popular video and audio formats as you need. Plus, with the built-in video editing feature of the program, you can trim, crop, add watermark and more to your video files.
