I have a 1.7GB mp4 file that I can’t import onto Avid. Because of its size too I can’t put it in a converter online. Any workaround to convert and import MP4 to Avid Media Composer? Please help!
Weird that an .mp4 wouldn’t import to Avid Media Composer. Avid might not work with some MP4 files sometimes due to the codec issue or other reasons.
Perhaps you could try AMA linking these clips and then transcoding them within Avid if you are finding it difficult to import them in directly from source. If Avid still cannot ingest your MP4 videos, there is any easy to fix the issue.
To get Avid Media Composer work well with MP4 videos, you could adjust MP4 to Avid MC supported video format. Along with some help from third-party software like DumboFab Video Converter (OR Mac version), you can easily get the problem solved. With it, you can transcode MP4 to Avid native editing-friendly format – DNxHD – ensuring maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Avid Media Composer. An Avid preset is included for easy access.
Guide: Transcoding MP4 to Avid DNxHD for Media Composer
Step 1. Load MP4 files to the program
Launch the MP4 to DNxHD converter, and you can either click “Add Video” button to import .mp4 files, or directly drag and drop the files into this program. Batch conversion is available here, so you are allowed to import several files at one time.
Step 2. Choose DNxHD as the output format
You can directly choose the DNxHD preset from “Editing Software” category for Avid Media Composer which has been supplied by the MP4 to Avid Mac Converter.
Step 3. Start MP4 to Avid DNxHD conversion
Hit “Convert” button and your files will be converted into DNxHD .mov files ready to be imported into Avid Media Composer. Now you can edit the encoded MP4 video files in Avid Media Composer without problems.
